Introduction to Safeguarding
Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility, so whatever your role in cricket, everyone should understand the importance of keeping children, young people and adults safe.
With this in mind, we invite you, and everybody at your club or organisation, to complete our online Introduction to Safeguarding. The training provides basic knowledge and advice in creating a safe cricket environment for everyone, recognising signs of abuse, what to do if you have any concerns or if you are approached by anyone with concerns that they may have.
This training is free to access, should take around 30 minutes to complete and is accessible on a laptop, tablet or mobile phone.

Safeguarding Level 2
Robust safeguarding helps to keep our cricket community safe and welcoming. This course will provide the learner with what to look out for and how to respond to concerns.
The Audience:
- Coaches or Activators
- Officials
- Captains/Vice-Captains
- Team Managers, Junior Supervisors, Volunteer Coordinators
- Chairs and Committee Members
- Club and League Safeguarding Officers
- Create a safe and inclusive cricket environment
- Describe what a safeguarding concern is
- Respond appropriately to concerns
- Describe how to report and record safeguarding concerns
Training for Club Safeguarding Officers (CSO)
Club Safeguarding Officers are vital members of the club and key to making an environment safe, welcoming and friendly for everyone to enjoy the game of cricket.
Club Safeguarding Officers need to complete two sets of training:
- Safeguarding Level 2 (online)
- Safe Hands workshop - Level 3 (face to face and run by the local County Cricket Board)
'Safe Hands' is the required workshop for all Club Safeguarding Officers and seeks to ensure that each club is aware of the role of the Club Safeguarding Officer within the framework of child protection and making clubs a welcome, safe and friendly place for everyone. Club Chairs are also encouraged to attend a Safe Hands Course every three years.
These courses should be updated every 3 years.
Club Safeguarding Officers must be over 18 years of age and hold a current ECB issued DBS Certificate.
