Cornwall Cricket Pathway Teams and ‘Cricket Collective’ Volunteers recognised

Last Friday, The Regal Cinema in Redruth hosted a special evening of celebration, as Cornwall Cricket's Pathway Teams and dedicated volunteers gathered for an awards ceremony. The event recognised the achievements of the season and honoured the contributions of those who have been integral to Cornwall Cricket's success.

The Cornwall Cricket Board expressed heartfelt thanks to the many individuals and groups who made the past season possible. This included the unsung heroes of the sport—umpires, clubs, coaches, players, as well as the supportive parents and partners—whose collective efforts have helped shape the vibrant cricketing community in Cornwall.

One of the highlights of the evening was the presence of Liam Norwell, a former Cornwall Cricket Pathway player who has since gone on to have a distinguished professional career, representing Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, and the England Lions. Norwell graciously presented the awards, inspiring attendees with his own journey from local cricket in Cornwall to the professional ranks.

Cornwall Cricket Board Pathways Manager Chris Hunkin Said:”This is the first year we have delivered a joint event like this with pathway and volunteers involved in equal measure. I walked away from the venue both thankful for all those who have committed and achieved so much this year but also grateful to have involvement with such a special group of people. It is important that we are able to say thank you and well done properly, hopefully we have managed to achieve that.”

Cornwall Cricket Board Managing Director Joe Skinner added: “It was a special event showcasing the amazing work carried out by the volunteers in Cornwall. Cricket is organised and delivered by volunteers and without key personnel we would never be able to provide the variety of cricket that we do. We are grateful for the support we get from the ‘Cricket Collective’ and the ECB which enabled us to deliver the ‘Cricket Collective’ Volunteer awards. All winners of the awards are deserving for what they do, and annually we encourage people to nominate. There are many volunteers in the game and all need to be congratulated for their efforts over 2024, without whom the game would struggle. To bring the Cricket Collective awards and Pathway together created a nice balance between the two groups and I am sure a mutual gratitude and appreciation for all concerned. Well done everyone on your 2024.”
