Dave Martin RIP

Cornish cricket is saddened to hear of the passing of Dave Martin of Penryn at the age of 83.

Past President of the Cornwall Rugby Football Union and well-known sports broadcaster from the beginning of BBC Radio Cornwall in January 1983.

He played cricket for many years at Falmouth, St Gluvias and finished at Perranarworthal and also played for Cornwall Over 50s.

He was also a league umpire for many seasons and a manager for the Cornwall Schools Cricket  Association.

He also helped and was on the organising committee for the Cornwall Youth  Cricket Festival.

His son Jeremy played for Perranarworthal. Grampound Road and St Austell and made two championship appearances for Cornwall CCC in 1993.

Dave's brother John also played for Grampound Road CC and for many years has been a rugby commentator and cricket reporter for BBC Radio Cornwall.
