It was a great weekend for Wadebridge Cricket Club as they won at Premier leaders Penzance to open up the title race – they are just three points behind and the top five covered by 22 points as the halfway mark is reached this weekend. Then on Sunday, they beat Penzance again before convincingly overcoming St Just to win the Premier T20 Kernow Crash for the first time.   Wadebridge win the Premier T20 Kernow Crash

 In the Premier League on Saturday James Turpin made 81 to get Wadebridge to 227-5 at Penzance and he then took four wickets as the champions were bowled out for 190 and their first defeat of the season. Max Waller hit 134 as St Just made 261-6 at Hayle and the win followed by 109 runs. At Werrington, Ben Smeeth hit 62  in the 156 all out but Redruth got home by three wickets. Water got under the covers at Callington with the start delayed until 4 pm. Callington made 118 in their 25 overs with Camborne winning by three wickets and a couple of overs to spare. Truro’s poor run continued at St Austell where they were bowled out for 51 and went down to a seven-wicket defeat.

In County Division One leaders Beacon lost for the first time in a year with a 43-run defeat at St Erme. Helston took closer order thumping Newquay by 256 runs with Billy Taylor and Luke Maugeri hitting centuries in their 349-5. Grampound Road won at Falmouth after chasing down the required 138 for the loss of four wickets. Paul had a three-wicket home win over Mullion and Redruth’s overseas player Rohan Wight made 120 in the home win over Werrington seconds. Callington seconds got a welcome success winning at Lanhydrock by 71 runs.

The Clive Rosevear Insurance Hawkey Cup Final was postponed for 24 hours due to heavy showers at St Austell an hour or so before the game. Werrington reduced St Austell to 10-4 before Michael Harding made 45 to post a modest target of 102. Player of the Match Dan Barnard hit 56 not out to secure a ninth competition success for Werrington, by seven wickets, with five overs to spare. Werrington win the Hawkey Cup

On Sunday Grampound Road were knocked out of the National Village Cup losing by nine wickets at the holders Calmore Sports Club, near Southampton.
