Grampound Road Cricket Club win the 2026 Women’s Hardball League
On a glorious summer’s day, Grampound Road CC clinched the league title against Truro CC.
With two strong teams being fielded this was going to be a good tussle. Grampound Road CC won the toss and invited Truro to have a bat first. Truro CC soon found themselves two down for 23 but then a steady partnership between Ashley Bridges (14) and Loraine Fletcher (31) saw them to 67 before Ashley Bridges was LBW. Izzy Newell joined Loraine Fletcher who set about rebuilding and getting to a total of 125 before Loraine was out. Overall a steady performance, supported by 57 extras including 46 wides and something for Grampound Road CC's young bowlers to work over time.
Grampound Road CC were set 131 to reach in the second innings, and with some stunning correct stroke play, Tilly Eldridge (retired not out 51) and Millie Matthews (34) built a partnership of 73 for the first wicket. The innings was completed with some lusty blows from Elsie Pritchard who finished 15 not out and Annie Jones who for a young batter showed great positivity.
Grampound Road CC came out on top with a win by 7 wickets to clinch the league title.
Both teams should be congratulated on playing in great spirits. There was great appreciation of good skill from all and some laughs along the way. Both teams had experienced players, but there were many young talented players on show which is exciting to see. The future is bright for women’s and girls’ cricket.
Congratulations must also go to all the teams playing the Cornwall Women’s Hardball League in 2026, Winners Grampound Road, can’t now be caught, Wadebridge CC, Truro CC, Werrington CC, Perranporth CC, Redruth CC and Helston CC.
Well done and thank you to all the volunteers who have prepared the ground, coached the players and umpires who have supported the games over the season, and it was great to have two neutral umpires standing to support the game.
Thankyou all for your efforts in developing women’s cricket in 2026.
