The contrasting start to the Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League season continues. Following the previous weekend of a hundred per cent completion of games, the rain returned on Saturday. Lunchtime rain in the north and east of the county was followed by heavy showers countywide later in the afternoon. Almost half the League games were not completed.
In the Premier Division, four games were determined by Duckworth-Lewis Stern. The Wadebridge versus Helston game was abandoned as a no result as it fell two overs short of the ten overs required to activate DLS in the second innings. Helston made 262 -8 in 48 overs. With Steve Jenkin making 76, Jayden Mitchell 43 and Dan Jenkin 39, they got to 198-2 at one stage. Wadebridge were just behind the DLS par score on 29-1 when the weather closed in after eight overs. There was a delayed start at Callington with the game against Camborne reduced to 29 overs. Aidan Libby (61) and Liam Lindsay (44) put on 100 for the first wicket. Chris Dent then dominated to hit 5 sixes in his 71 off 30 balls. Needing 246, Camborne were 106-6 in the 24th over, and 87 runs behind the par score, when the rain returned. Over an hour was lost at Werrington with the match reduced to 40 overs. After losing Jack Paull cheaply, Penzance’s Christian Purchase (56) and Basil Akram (37) added 97 for the second wicket. Mark Taskis took 3-53 to keep the innings in check, but Ollie Rayner made an unbeaten 46 to see the innings close on 200-8. Werrington were two runs ahead on DLS after nine overs, but a Tom Dinnis maiden over and only four runs coming off the next two overs saw them lose by three runs as rain ended proceedings. Grampound Road were bowled out for 133 at Redruth, with number four Harry Gregory top scoring with 45 before being last out in the 42nd over. Dominic Batchelor and Ellis Whiteford shared six wickets. Whiteford, opening the batting, then made 34 before departing for county duty in Buckinghamshire. The overseas Attyab Ahmad was unbeaten on 52 when rain stopped play at 124-3 in the 31st over. The Reds were comfortably 56 runs ahead on DLS. St Just were restricted by St Austell to 151-9 in fifty overs at Cape Road. Seven batters got to double figures, led by opener Neil Curnow with 27. Gary Bone took 3-23 from ten overs. Rain interruptions saw the St Austell target reduced to 101 off 28 overs. After Rowen Taplin made 37 professional Nadeera Balasuriya was 40 not out in the six-wicket win with 28 balls to spare.
In County Division One, there was no play after tea in the Paul versus Luckett game. Paul made 202-9 in fifty overs with Kameron Collins hitting 39. Leion Cole took 4-27. Newquay made 239-8 in 49 overs at Falmouth. They were 98-1 at one stage with skipper Adam Cocking (72), going on to be sixth out at 184, dismissed by Dylan De Beer (3-46). Falmouth’s reply only lasted two overs. Stithians just fell short of a win at home to Truro. Losing Indian professional Raja Waheed for 43, Truro were struggling at 109-6, but the tail wagged with Josh Cardigan and Rob Harrison adding an unbroken 48 for the ninth wicket to get to 220-9. Stithians were 22 runs ahead of par when the game was abandoned two balls short of the 10-over threshold. Hayle narrowly beat Perranporth by three runs on DLS at the Towans after being dismissed for 121. Malik Din’s 25 was the top score in the match. The visitors were 92-9 in reply, with James Franklin taking 3-34. Beacon made 209-9 in 48 overs at Roche with Jordan Thomas 81 not out. The home side were 28-3 off 13 overs when the rain came and were 47 runs short of the par score.
