WORLD CUP RECOGNITION FOR STUART NYE MLCC
The Cornwall Cricket Board would like to congratulate Stuart Nye (Menheniot Cricket Club) who has been very fortunate to become the very first senior’s cricketer from Cornwall to represent his country after being selected to join the England 70s squad as they seek to retain the Silver Ashes and World Championship during their Down Under Tour in Australia and New Zealand in February/March 2026.
Seniors cricket in England and Wales has over the last few years experienced exponential growth with 34 counties, 126 teams and over 1500 players taking part in our county competition each week during the season.
Internationally the England 60s and 70s sides compete and flourish in an increasingly competitive landscape with the 70s side seeking to retain their Silver Ashes and World Champions titles next year.
Stuart started his playing career in Cornwall for Menheniot Looe Cricket Club before being selected on to Cornwall 60s and now into the England 70s tour squad where he will take part in a 36 day tour, spending 10 days in Adelaide where the squad will play 4 games of cricket before travelling on to Sydney for a further 8 days and 3 more games of cricket. In total the squad will play 4 warm up games and 3 one day internationals against Australia contesting the Silver Ashes before moving on to Christchurch in New Zealand for the World Cup of which the itinerary has not been published as of yet.
With no central funding available to seniors cricket the players finance their own tour trips which includes spouses (£16K+ per couple) and they seek to find sponsorship/donations to cover all cricket related cost (transport, match balls, umpire costs, etc) that will apply during the five week trip.
The window for sponsorship has closed as the “online brochure” has gone to press, however the tour party are still accepting kind donations and if you would like to support the tour party then please email Stuart at [email protected] who will pass your details on to the tour manager who will furnish you with an invoice.
Alternatively, Anton Luiton on behalf of Cornwall Seniors Cricket has set up a GoFund Me page at https://gofund.me/aa7d02705 to help support Stuart and his wife Beverley during the trip, if you would like to make a small donation which would be much appreciated please follow the link.
Good luck Stuart and enjoy the experience from all involved at Cornwall Cricket.
