The Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Premier Division looks set for a fascinating campaign if the first four rounds are anything to go by. Just five points separate the top five and only 20 points are covering the whole field.

Redruth and St Austell are the new joint leaders despite Redruth losing at home to Truro. The overseas players both hit centuries. Amir Yamin’s 120 laid the foundation for Truro’s 287-9. Dulash Udayanga responded with 100 not out in a 67-run defeat for the Reds. St Austell won at Camborne by three wickets. Set 185 Mike Bone (54) and Dan Jarman (53) added 110 for the first wicket. Alfie MacDonald top scored with 46 for the hosts.

The shock of the day came at Callington where Penzance dropped their first points in a game where 15 wickets fell for 115 runs. Only Jack Paull (17) got double figures as Penzance were shot out for 57 with opening bowler Ben Ellis taking 5-23 from ten overs. The home side didn’t have it all their own way as Jonny Ludlam took 4-26 but Matt Shepherd made 20 as the win came by five wickets in a match that only lasted 41 overs.

Wadebridge got a welcome comfortable win beating Helston by 59 runs at the Riverside after making 185. Matt Robins (79) anchored the innings before being eighth out. Callum Wilson then took four wickets as Helston were dismissed for 126. St Just made the long trip to Werrington and came home with the points after a six-wicket success. Werrington lost their last five wickets for 20 runs after Jack Ralph took 5-18. An unbeaten 49 from Neil Curnow steered the Penwith club to the 103 target with six wickets and 17 overs to spare.

Grampound Road lead County Division 1 by five points from Newquay as the third of the season point is reached. They beat Falmouth by six wickets at the Palying Field thanks to a fine all-round performance by Sri Lankan Ravindra Karunaratne. He took 5-22 before making 88 as the Road reached the 207 target for the loss of four wickets.  Joe Crane led the way for Newquay as they beat Beacon by five wickets at the Sports Centre. He took three wickets as Beacon were restricted to 151-7 and then top-scored with 53 in the five-wicket success.

Paul are third after a 15 run home win over Mullion. Kieran Bowden made 55 in a sound team batting performance of 230-8. Opener Michael Blanks got the visitors close with 98. There was  a tight game at Roche who beat Camborne seconds by one wicket with just three balls remaining. The Roche last pair of Oscar Green and Stewart May held their nerve to get the three required. Earlier Martin Jenkin made 50 for Camborne.

Tom Sharp masterminded Hayle’s home win over Wadebridge Seconds making 76 and taking 4-30. Penzance Seconds are still without a win after St Erme won by eight wickets at St Clare. Spencer Wilcock took 5-25 to bowl the hosts out for 105.
