A frustrating day saw the weather close in on Saturday afternoon with only games in the east of the county being able to complete. Similarly, on Bank Holiday Monday, where 17 matches were rescheduled, several games in the west were again abandoned around tea time.
Only one Premier Division match saw a victory as Truro against Werrington passed the second innings threshold of 20 overs to allow DLS to come into play. Werrington made 279-2 before declaring after 40 overs. Vithanage Dilshan made an unbeaten 122, including 4 sixes, and shared an unbeaten stand of 174 with Adam Hodgson, who hit 75 not out. Truro had reached 140-5 off 28 overs when the rain set in to give the visitors a 26-run win on the Duckworth Lewis method. Elsewhere Callington made 225-8 in a shortened innings of 33 overs at St Austell. Graham Wagg hit 80 and Connor Cooke took four wickets. Only five overs of the St Austell reply was possible. The leaders Penzance made 221-7 in 48 overs at Helston with skipper Ben Seabrook scoring 85. Lewis Goldsworthy’s fine form continued for Camborne. He made 99 not-out at Redruth to add to the 146 and 57 not-out in previous games. Camborne were 53-5 at one stage but recovered to 177-7 in 42 overs when rain stopped play. The earliest abandonment came at St Just where the Wadebridge innings was curtailed after 37 overs. They had been in trouble at 51-6 with Ben Stevens taking 4-30 but opener Kevin Renecke was unbeaten on 69 sharing an unbroken stand of 61 for the eighth wicket with Elliot Dunnett (33no).
In County Division 1 the Penzance Seconds against Hayle game didn’t start. Elsewhere all five games failed to reach the DLS cut-off and were abandoned. The closest came at Wadebridge where Grampound Road were two balls short (19.4 overs) of a DLS victory. They were seven runs ahead of the par score providing they didn’t lose a sixth wicket. At St Erme Mullion made 158 and the home side was well placed at 85-1 with Kyle Van Rooyen unbeaten on 53 after taking three wickets earlier. Roche made 192 at Beacon and was ahead on DLS when rain halted Beacon’s reply at 54-3 off 12 overs. Newquay were 113-9 at Falmouth and Camborne Seconds 150-9 at home to Paul.
On Monday Grampound Road moved to the top of the table thanks to a six-wicket home win over Camborne Seconds. Penzance Seconds are yet to win after losing at Mullion by eight wickets in a game that lasted less than 40 overs. Paul won by 60 runs at Wadebridge and Falmouth and St Erme were again denied by the weather with St Erme 45-2 in the eleventh over chasing Falmouth's 158-8 with Dylan Smith taking 5-25.
On Sunday Penzance beat Helston by eight wickets in the ECB National Club Championship to qualify for the Regional Final away to Golden Hill (Bristol) or Bristol CC on 16 June.
In the Voneus Village Cup St Erme beat Roche by 154 runs. They will travel to Grampound Road for the Regional Final on 9 June. The Road had a walkover against Yelverton Bohemians.
