Redruth CC complete their Solar Panel Project - County Grants Fund
Redruth CC (RCC) have recently been awarded £10,000 under the ECB County Grants Scheme under the “Tackling Climate Change” criteria, supported by the Cornwall Cricket Board.
RCC went about securing planning permission for the installation of 20 ground mounted solar panels to maximise distance away from the playing surface. The panels were installed by a Redruth based contractor onto a frame designed, built and installed by a contractor from Boscastle.
This frame was specifically chosen because it has the ability to tilt between 16 degrees (nearly horizontal) to make the most of the summer sun and to 76 degrees (nearly vertical) to capture winter rays. It also means that on match days when playing on that side of the square the panels can be titled to reduce the likelihood of ball impact on the panels.
The installation will produce approximately 9,000kWh of electricity each year, paired with battery storage (funded separately to the panels). It is hoped this will cut electricity bills by around 40% each year, a saving of around £3,000 per annum.
The panels chosen are a common make and size to allow for simple maintenance and future proofed repair and alterations.
It is hoped in the years to come additional battery storage and electric vehicle charging will be provided at the club to push our CO2 production down even further and save the club further money as well a generating a new income stream through EV charging.
If you wish to discuss the install with the club to get ideas on how we went about it, please email Redruth CC.
Cornwall Cricket Board currently has many projects in the pipeline, from net redevelopments, boiler replacements, to decking creating better social spaces. In total our budget is £56,000, of which if all applications come to fruition is spent in 2024, however, if clubs are interested in a County Grant's fund for either the end of 2024 or 2025, please make contact with Joe Skinner, Managing Director to scope out ideas and next steps.
