Troon Cricket Club host a Disability Festival
Champion Disability Club Troon held its first Festival on Sunday June 12th with 28 players attending from St Stephen, St Erme, St Austell and Troon, all Champion Clubs, plus players from Super 1s Hub Clubs Penzance and Helston.
Players had a great day with pairs matches on 2 pitches, everyone having a chance to bat and bowl.
With matches starting at 11am the lunch break arrived towards 1 o’clock and everyone enjoyed a BBQ with burgers, sausages and chips provided by Troon volunteers Janine, Cath and Mark.
With the sun shining the afternoon session was full of hits and misses, runs and wickets, with a large crowd cheering and applauding the efforts of the players. New friendships developed as the high fives continued amongst batters, bowlers and fielders. ‘’The best day ever’’ said one player, ‘’can we do this again?’’ said another. We certainly will! ‘’We will make this an annual event’’ was the comment from Alan Thomas, Troon Chairman.
All the players were presented with a Certificate of Participation to remember the day. Some great photos from Jenny Eccles show what a wonderful day of Disability Cricket we had at Troon.
My thanks to Wayne Bilkey and Sue Leathley for helping to organise and run the matches.
