Redruth Seconds repeated their success in the competition’s inaugural season of 2017 with a 23-run victory in a low-scoring final. With Redruth bowled out for 113, the smart money might have been on Perranporth, who the following day claimed the Division 2 West title with two games to spare. However, Redruth had other ideas and an excellent display in the field saw them add the title to that of their third eleven with the Andrew Cup earlier in the season. Redruth’s innings got off to a lively start with Aizaz Ahmad making 28 off 13 balls in the first four overs despite James Hall claiming the early wickets of Simon Danby and Elliot Stoddard in the second over. Only Luke Johnson (21) and skipper Alasdair Faull (22) got double figures of the rest with Tom Bradburn taking 3-11. Harry Bolland (3-22) struck early in the reply as only skipper Harry Watkins got into double figures before being sixth out at 72, having hit 3 sixes and 3 fours off 49 balls. Daniel Viner also got the wickets of Bryn Evans and Hall to take 3-19 and was awarded the Player of the Match Award. The innings ended at 90 all out with five balls remaining.
Both semi-finals had rain interruptions and the new ruling of DLS being used in later stages came into play. Redruth hit 155-7 against St Austell seconds with Simon Danby top scoring with 47. The St Austell innings was reduced by five overs with a revised target of 127. James Carter made 37 in their 93-7 with Luke Johnson taking 3-11.
In the second semi-final holders Holsworthy made 92-9 in 18 overs with Jasper Presswell getting 31. The Perranporth target was revised to 84 for 16 overs. They got home by five wickets with ten balls to spare thanks to an unbeaten 23 from opener Travis Woolston.
