Penzance are the clear leaders at the top of the Bond Timber Cornwall Premier Division following a 126-run win at Werrington. They took maximum batting points making 250-9 thanks to Christian Purchase 61, Tom Dinnis 34no, Giles Lawrence 34 and Josh Croom 33. They had been 174-8 before Dinnis and Lawrence made valuable contributions. They both then took three wickets to add to Croom’s 4-35 as Werrington were dismissed for 124. Redruth are three points behind but had to scrap for victory at home to St Austell who made 184-7 with opener Curtis Dalby hitting 40. Redruth were 56-5 at one stage but got home by three wickets thanks to Toby Stoddard (30) and an unbeaten 81 from Craig Williams batting at number eight.
Kevin Renecke held the Wadebridge innings together at Callington making 120 in the 220-6. It proved invaluable as the home side were dismissed for 114 with Callum Wilson taking three wickets. Truro’s good run continued as they moved up to third following a 47-run home win over Helston. Amir Yamin and Adam Price both passed 40 in the 238-8. Helston were reduced to 90-7 before Gavin Tregenza (47) and Mark Jenkin 31 got the total to 191.
Camborne overtook St Just at the foot of the table with an eight-wicket home success after St Just were dismissed for 101 with Neil Curnow making 39. Alfie MacDonald hastened the end of the visitor’s inning taking 4-1 from nine balls. Josh Fontana made an unbeaten 30 as Camborne cruised home with 23 overs to spare.
With Grampound Road’s game with Camborne Seconds played earlier in the season, due to a wedding, Newquay took advantage to move to the top of the County Division 1 table by a point. The Road do, however, have two games in hand at the halfway stage of the season. Toby Chillingworth made 54 in Newquay’s 176 at home to Mullion. Mathew Davies took 3-28 and ended on 37 not out as Mullion were restricted to 156-9. Third-placed Paul lost a low-scoring game at Roche by two wickets after being dismissed for 140 with Ryan Clark taking 4-40.
Jack Thomas made 62 as Beacon totalled 193-9 at Hayle. Tom Sharp returned 4-20. Ben James then took 6-20 as Hayle were shot out for 79. Four Falmouth batters, Harry Roberts, Aidan Carter, James Tomlinson and Adrian Noott hit fifties at Penzance Seconds in the 266-4, and victory followed by 143 runs.
St Erme made the big score of 314-9 at Wadebridge with Kyle Van Rooyen hitting 94. Sam Richards made a creditable 120 in reply as the home side scored 231. On Sunday, in a rescheduled game at Camborne Seconds, Paul Menhinick made 59 to secure a three-wicket Wadebridge success. Camborne made 168-9 in 40 overs after a delayed start due to morning mizzle.
Grampound Road are through to the last 16 of the Voneus Village Cup after beating Welsh side Sully Spartans by 74 runs in a match similarly reduced to 30 overs. Tom Orpe made 40 in the 194-7. The Road travel to Oxfordshire side Horspath in Round 6.
