Following a couple of days of rain, most of the Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League programme was able to be played on a bright and breezy afternoon. However, a heavy shower in the far west did cause late interruptions in the Premier Division games at St Just and Penzance with Duckworth Lewis Stern required. The leaders Redruth made 218-9 at St Just with opener Toby Whiteford celebrating his birthday with 104 before being bowled by former Redruth bowler Ben Stevens (4-31). Dulash Udayanga (79no) was the only other visiting batter in double figures. The rain interruption reduced the Redruth target to 200 from 42 overs. It came down to 36 off three overs and 11 off the last over bowled by Ellis Whiteford, who bowled Gavin Edwards (18) with the first ball. With eight required off the final ball, Chamikara Edirsinghe hit a six to end on 41 not out at 198-9.
Penzance are joint top after beating Camborne at St Clare by five wickets. Camborne made 151-9 with skipper Jamie Goldsworthy scoring 47. The Penzance DLS target of 133 was achieved with over five overs to spare after Jack Paull made 68. There was an excellent game at Helston where Callington suffered their first defeat as the hosts won by ten runs. Young Billy Taylor made 66 in Helston’s 191-9. Callington lost their top six batters for 102 with Lance Alberts accounting for Graham Wagg and Liam Lindsay in successive overs at 66-4. Truro are up to fifth following a third successive win. Charlie Kent made 40 and Amir Yamin 31 in the 178-9 at St Austell. The home side reached 81-1 before collapsing to 143 all out with Yamin (3-17) and Conway Gilbert (3-42), against his former club, doing the damage.
Werrington moved above Wadebridge to seventh thanks to a weather-interrupted win at Egloshayle Road. The Werrington innings was reduced to 38 overs when rain interrupted at 64-2 off 19 overs. They ended on 215-6 with Sam Hockin in the runs again with 72. Wadebridge had an adjusted DLS target of 227 but more rain saw a further revision to a target of 175 off 30 overs. Kevin Renecke made 58 before being run out and James Turpin hit 35 at a run a ball but they fell short to end on 149-5. Ben Smeeth and Adam Hodgson sent down five overs each conceding a combined total of 34 runs.
On Sunday Penzance progressed to the fourth round of the National Club Championship after a comfortable seven-wicket win in Bristol against Golden Hill. Josh Croom (4-29) and Ben Seabrook (76no) led the way to set up a home tie with Bath in the last 16 on 7 July.
In County Division 1 the leaders Grampound Road were indebted to Ravi Karunarathna who took 6-13 at Mullion to secure a 125-run win after Tom Orper and Chris Willett made fifties. Newquay lost ground after a 43-run defeat at Paul for whom Kieran Bowden took 4-19. Ben James made 120 as Beacon hit the big total of 355-4 at home to Penzance Seconds with a victory followed by 248 runs.
Young Haydn Ayres took 5-35 as Falmouth beat Wadebridge Seconds by two wickets in a DLS win but Mullion won similarly at Falmouth in a rescheduled game on Sunday. Roche were 82-7 seeking 173 to win at St Erme but in a thrilling finish won by one wicket with two balls to spare thanks to an unbeaten 45 from James Cole. Hayle had it far more comfortable at Camborne Seconds with Tom Sharp making 59 not out in the eight-wicket success.
