Remarkably with only five rounds remaining of the Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League, there are teams level on points at both the top of the Premier and County Division One.

In the Premier Wadebridge dropped a batting point at Hayle losing a couple of wickets in chasing down the 50 required. Hayle reached 20-1 before collapsing with James Turpin wrapping up the innings by taking 5-9 with the last five wickets all falling on 49. At Penzance, the home side piled up 256-6 against Werrington thanks in the main to Jack Paull with 80, Ben Seabrook (55), Simon Keane (43) and  Kian Burns with 42. Werrington were bowled out for 133 with overseas player Sam Willis top scoring with 19. St Just made it three wins in a row by beating Redruth by 128 runs at Cape Road. Max Waller’s century and four wickets for Michael Fitchett see them rise to fourth spot.

Helston ended a three-match losing run to win at Camborne by 28 runs, in a match reduced to 48 overs after a delayed start. Ross Leathley made 76 before Dan Walker took 6-29. Jamie Goldsworthy made fifty for Camborne in a losing cause. Storm Antoni saw high winds in the west of the county but mid and east Cornwall also suffered rain in the afternoon. A delayed start at St Austell was followed by a further reduction to end with a 36-over game against Callington. Ian Holland reduced the home side to 23-3  before Hugh Parkinson (45) and Jonty Leadbeater (51) helped post 147-7. The DLS calculation increased the target to 151 but Callington achieved it with three wickets and almost six overs to spare to move above Hayle at the foot of the table. Aidan Libby made 56 while Cornwall Under 14 Ben Sleeman (3-8) took a wicket with his first ball, on debut. It was not a good weekend for St Austell who were well beaten by 59 runs by Swansea in the Vitality Club T20 Area semi-final at Bridgwater on Sunday.

Standings after 13 /18 games: Wadebridge 202 pts, Penzance 202, St Austell 158, St Just 157, Helston 151, Redruth 149, Werrington 147, Camborne 137, Callington 122, Hayle 110.

In County Division 1 the title race took a twist as both Falmouth and Truro failed to take a batting point. Falmouth were shot out for 78 at Grampound Road after a two-hour delay saw the game reduced to 30 overs. A further delay after tea meant only a minimum 20 overs were available from which the ‘Road’ required the DLS target of 59, which they reached for the loss of three wickets. At St Erme, Kyle Van Rooyen achieved one of the great all-round performances,  against his former club. He dominated to make 131 out of St Erme’s 232. Truro were then knocked over for just 45 with Van Rooyen taking 8-10 from 6.4 overs. The bowling bonus points were enough to move Truro level with Falmouth. They play each other at Truro on 19 August.

Meanwhile, Paul are right back in contention being just four points off the pace. They dismissed Penzance Seconds for only 55  with Damon Nicholls taking 5-21. Mullion overtook Newquay to move up to fourth with a 40-run win at Garro Lane. Roche had a disappointing weekend losing to Redruth Seconds by ten runs on Saturday and by 90 runs in a rescheduled game at Grampound Road on Sunday. They lie in the relegation zone two points behind Redruth. Lanhydrock are now 39 points adrift at the foot after their home game with Beacon was called off due to the weather without a ball bowled.

Standings after 17 /22 games: Truro 245pts, Falmouth 245, Paul 241, Mullion 200, Newquay 196, Beacon 189, St Erme 179, Penzance II 172, Grampound Road 166, Redruth II 150, Roche 148. Lanhydrock 109. Penzance II & Grampound Road have played one match fewer.
