Penzance remain unbeaten after eight games in the Bond Timber ECB Cornwall Premier League after beating Camborne by 143 runs at St Clare. They maintain a 29 point lead over Truro. Christian Purchase made 37, Tom Wells 79 and Greg Smith was 46 not out as Penzance reached 221-5. Tom Dinnis then took 4-17 to bowl the visitors out for 82. On a showery day the Duckworth Lewis calculators came out at three of the venues in the Premier League. St Austell made 205 at Truro with fifties for Hugh Parkinson and Scott Barrott. Truro were 179-6 when rain ended play after 45.1 overs. The D/L calculation saw them just two runs ahead of the target. Harry Phillips made 68 and Kyle van Rooyen was on a crucial 30 not out. At Redruth Toby Whiteford made 51 and his brother Ellis was 45no as the home side made 193. A slight D/L adjustment saw St Just requiring 192 from 49 overs. They got there by five wickets thanks to a century from Max Waller, who has been switching from Somerset T20 Blast action around the country and his St Just commitments in recent weeks. Grampound Road made 201-7 when rain curtailed their innings after 42.3 overs at Wadebridge. Alex Ridd made 88. The D/L target was 217 from 40 overs but the home side did it with eight overs to spare thanks to an unbeaten century from Matt Robins. No calculators were needed at Werrington who were bowled out for 106 with Rob Mutch taking 5-22. Callington’s Kian Burns then made 54 to steer his side to a seven-wicket win.

In County Division 1 leaders Hayle won by seven wickets at St Austell with Marc Sweeney making 71 not out. Falmouth and Helston remain tied in second spot, ten points behind. Falmouth avenged their opening day defeat with victory by 96 runs against Lanhydrock. Skipper Richard Kellow hit 63 while Jake Carter made 52 for the visitors.  Helston won by 74 runs at Beacon with skipper Steve Jenkin making 80 not out and taking 5-20. Karl Leathley was in the runs again with 64. Young Taylor Gerry made 118 and Nick Oldacre took 6-25 as Werrington seconds won by 191 runs in a 40 over match at Gorran. Paul were dismissed for 156 at Newquay with four wickets for Grant Stone but Matt Lawrence took 5-23 to see victory for the Penwith club by 88 runs. Jack Evans hit 56 for St Erme at home to Redruth seconds with Allistair Faull taking 5-42. George Harris made 56 not out to secure a seven-wicket success. Redruth’s home game on Saturday has been cancelled as virtually all the St Austell seconds team are in ten days of Covid self-isolation.
