Saltash CC see the benefits of their new Non-Turf Pitch
In the 2025 County Grants funding, Saltash Cricket Club recieved a £10,000 grant from Cornwall Cricket Board and the ECB to install a Non-Turf match pitch with an aim of providing better match opportunities for their women's and youth teams.
The total project cost of £11,000 was completed during the spring of 2026 and the club had the match facility installed.
Alex Johnson from Saltash CC stated, "This funding will make a huge difference to the club and help improve playing and training opportunities for our members and the wider community for years to come. We are extremely grateful for your support and commitment to grassroots cricket."
This type of project is important for the safeguarding of cricket moving forwards. "Non-turf match pitches will relieve pressure on cricket squares allowing more cricket matches to be played in a game where there are increasing pressures to play games. Of course the added benefit for all cricketers but importantly young, new players get consistent true bounce within training and match play, so they will naturally develop quicker in all departments." Joe Skinner CEO Cornwall Cricket Board.
The game has a growing capacity issue with and as a game we need to consider growing the number of Non-Turf Pitches in the county to allow games to be played, so the quality of the fine turf squares is maintained.
