2026 Cornwall Cricket League Tier 1 Preview

The eighth season of Bond Timber sponsorship of the Cornwall Cricket League.

The 2026  Bond Timber Cornwall League season sees an increase of four teams to 151 teams competing in 15 divisions. Changes to the Playing Conditions see an increase from 6 points to 8 points for Abandoned or Cancelled games.  Fielding Restrictions will now apply to Divisions 3 & 4 and all rounds of the Clive Rosevear Cup.

In the Premier Division, last year’s champions Penzance have a change of captain. Christian Purchase takes over from Brad Wadlan, who has moved back to Wales. All-rounder Basil Akram, who has played first-class cricket, left-arm quick and Netherlands international Ben Fletcher, Notts batter Sammy King, and all-rounder Ollie Rayner have joined, with Nick Halsted-Cleak departing. A replacement for last year’s overseas player, Mehran Sanwal, is yet to be confirmed after former Indian Test player Hanuma Vihari withdrew due to injury.

There are also a number of changes at Callington. Former Gloucestershire captain Chris Dent replaces Graham Wagg. Cornwall’s Jake Rowe and the Devon pair of Matt Thompson and Matt Whalley make the move to Moores Park. Ollie Allsop’s return is delayed due to a back injury, so Somerset Academy‘s Fin Hill has been drafted in. Xavie Clarke and Max Tryfonos have moved on. The South African batter Liam Lindsay returns for a fourth successive season.

Other returning overseas players are Dinuka  Dilshan (Camborne), Ravindra Karunarathna (Grampound Road), Jayden Mitchell (Helston), Chamikara Edirisinghe (St Just) and Thulina Dilshan (Werrington). Kiwi Ryan Jackson joins Wadebridge with Australian Lachlan Crump returning as a UK passport holder. There’s a new look at St Austell with Sri Lankan  Nadeera Balasuriya joined by no less than three dual passport holders. South African Rowan Taplin has transferred from Callington, and Indian Pravardhan Raj and South African Gianluca Longo have also found their way to Wheal Eliza.

Former Gloucestershire and Warwickshire bowler Liam Norwell returns to his home club to captain Redruth. Cornwall Captain Paul Smith also returns home to Werrington from Birmingham. Former County Captain Scott Harvey has moved from relegated Truro to St Just, for whom Gareth May is set to captain for a final twentieth season. Newly promoted Camborne have gained county players Scott Kellow from Truro and Craig Johnson from Redruth. UK passport holder, Australian Josh Fontana, also returns to Roskear’s Warrior Park after a successful first season
