Cornwall Indoor Women’s Softball Festivals Off to a Great Start
The Cornwall Indoor Women’s Cricket Softball Festivals have enjoyed a lively and encouraging start since kicking off on October 1st. With a real focus on fun, inclusivity, and relaxed competition, the first five festivals have been well attended, with teams showing great progress and taking part in some really enjoyable games.
One of the most popular events so far has been the UV Glow-in-the-Dark Cricket Night. The hall was lit up with UV lights, glowing bats and balls, and plenty of bright face paint and accessories. The upbeat music and friendly atmosphere made it a memorable evening, and players have shared lots of positive feedback about how much they enjoyed the experience.
Women and Girls Officer Nick Matthews said: “The indoor festivals are proving to be a great way for players to build confidence in key areas of the game, including fielding, running between the wickets, and bowling. It’s been exciting to see the overall standard continue to rise as more opportunities open up for women and girls across the county.
“There’s also been real growth in the number of clubs offering softball cricket. The total has increased from 21 in 2024 to 32 for 2025. Teams like Newquay, St Erme, St Gluvias, and Falmouth have taken part in their first indoor events and already put in some impressive performances. Others, including Luckett, Bude, and Hayle, have continued to build on a strong summer of development, helping create even more opportunities for female players.”
The season continues, with two more UV festivals and two Christmas-themed events on the way, complete with festive treats, music, and spot prizes. These will round off the year on a cheerful note before the holiday break.
The Cornwall Cricket Board remains committed to making cricket welcoming, accessible, and enjoyable for women of all ages and abilities. Plans are already being put together for the East Cornwall softball festivals starting in the new year.
