Mount Ambrose Hosts Successful Breast Cancer Charity Cricket Festival

On 31 August 2023, Mount Ambrose Cricket Club proudly hosted a Breast Cancer Charity Festival Day, bringing together six women’s softball cricket teams for a celebration of sport, community, and fundraising.

Despite a delayed start due to wet weather, the teams took to the field in a round-robin format. The festival welcomed clubs who were either new to women’s softball cricket this year, or hoping to join the league in the near future, making it a valuable experience day for players of all levels. A touring team from Wiltshire also joined the line-up, adding to the fun and friendly competition.

The day built towards two exciting finals: Stithians vs. Beacon in the main final, and Falmouth vs. Mount Ambrose in the 3rd/4th playoff. Beacon edged a thrilling finish, chasing down the last seven runs in the final over to claim victory. While results mattered on the scoreboard, the real success of the day was the spirit of cricket and enjoyment shown in every match.

Off the pitch, the festival was just as lively. Fundraising activities included a raffle, cake sale, auction, and the light-hearted “Guess How Many Balloons in the Bra” competition. Thanks to the generosity of all involved, the event raised over £1,000 for breast cancer charities — an outstanding achievement.

Cornwall Cricket would like to thank everyone who supported the day: players, umpires, scorers, fundraisers, spectators, BBQ and bar volunteers, and all the helpers who made the festival possible. A special mention goes to Anthony “Baz” Brush, whose hard work and organisation ensured the event ran smoothly and successfully.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, affecting 1 in 7 women during their lifetime. Events like this not only raise vital funds but also bring people together in support of an important cause.
