Intense Women's softball finals day at St Erme
After winning their respective regional group stages, Redruth, Werrington and Wadebridge took to the finals day stage at St Erme Cricket club, putting on a gripping, skillful and high energy display of cricket. The day went down to the last innings, where all 3 teams had a chance of claiming victory!
Wadebridge began the day with a game against Redruth. Wadebridge batted first and posted a competitive 283. The Wadebridge innings were boosted by the third pair of batters, Skipper Katie and Nikki, with a partnership of 29 in their allotted 4 overs. The reverse sweep was a productive choice of shot for the Wadebridge skipper. The Redruth skipper Kayleigh kept her nerve with the ball, only going for 1 run in the last over of the innings, whilst picking up a wicket. The Redruth innings started slowly with super overs from Bryher, Grace and Trish, however, the redruth batters slowly got into their work chasing down the target. Phoebe bowled a wicket maiden in the middle of the innings, as the pendulm of an incredible game, kept swinging. With 250 on the board, with 4 overs to go, Georgie and Kayleigh came to the wicket. Kayleigh hit 3 4s in quick succession, however, Bryher pulled the momentum back in the penultimate over, only going for 4 runs. Redruth required 11 from the last over. Gerogie swung hard and got the third ball away for a boundary, that coupled with same 1s and 2s, left 1 off the last ball to win. Redruth scampered home off the last ball to win the first game of the day.

Match 2 saw Redruth play again, against East league winners, Werrington, who batted first. The innings got off to a flying start, with 26 scored off the first 4. This momentum generated an onslaught from the Ladies in Maroon, notably from the young third pairing of Captain, Tilly and Freya, scoring 49 in their 4 overs which included 20 from the 12th over.
Redruth got back into the game by taking 4 wickets for 20 runs in the last quarter of the game, Charlie and Kayleigh with the wickets. The Redruth innings started well, and were 44 off the first 8 overs, on track to set up a great finish. Sophie's combination of left and right handed batting supported her team's cause by whacking boundaries left right and centre. The third set of 4 overs were extremely tight from Werrington, however, importantly, Redruth did not lose any wickets through this time. A late charge for runs by the last pair resulted in the scoreboard ticking over, however, Emma kept her cool in the last over to only go for 6 runs to secure a victory by 17 runs.

Redruth 282
The two previous games had set up an interesting finale, where all teams could still win the tournament. Werrington needed a win to secure it, whilst Wadebridge had to win by a higher amount of runs to secure the title. Any result that fell between these outcomes, meant that Redruth were in with a real chance also, based on run rate. Werrington won the toss and again chose to bat first. The innings ebbed and flowed throughout, however it was Wadebridges bowlers who seemed to keep the game under control. Gracie took 3 wickets in the 12th over to really give the bowling team the upper hand, whilst Bryher and Sarah kept their cool to knock the ball around to achieve a respectable 250. Knowing that 283 would secure wadebridge the overall win on the day, the Werrington bowlers kept the innings tight to begin with, however steady scoring throughout the innings kept Wadebridge in the hunt. At 248 going into the last 4 overs, wadebridge seemed to have the game wrapped up, however, some crucial wickets from from Fraya, Tilly and Ella kept the score around the same scoreline. 3 were needed off the last over, two scrambled runs off the first 5 balls, with a very tightly set field meant it all came down to the final ball. Some great relay fielding from the keeper, and bowler, emma, meant that a run out was achieved on the last ball, which gave Werrington two wins, therefore claiming the Women's Softball title for 2025.

A marvelous day of cricket which could of gone one of 3 ways, even down to the last few overs spoke volumes for the quality of cricket on show. All players should be proud of their contributions to the day.
