Perranporth and Redruth Secure Victories in Cornwall Women's Indoor Cricket League

The Cornwall Women's Indoor Cricket League continued in thrilling fashion at the Cricket Centre on Monday night, as Perranporth and Redruth claimed crucial victories in their respective matches against Wadebridge and Truro.

Perranporth Triumphs Over Wadebridge

In the first match of the evening, Perranporth won the toss and elected to field. Their bowlers made an immediate impact, with Laura delivering a maiden over in the second, setting the tone for a disciplined bowling performance. The pressure paid off in the third over when Emily Quick found the outside edge of Jazmine’s bat, resulting in a catch behind and an early breakthrough.

Despite this setback, Wadebridge steadied their innings as Nikki Wallford and Grace took the score to 29-1 after five overs. However, Perranporth continued to apply pressure, taking key wickets, including a crucial run-out. Charlotte injected some much-needed momentum with well-placed threes, while Grace anchored the innings to a respectable 60 runs, remaining unbeaten on 25. Erin Milsom was instrumental in Perranporth’s strong finish, claiming two wickets.

Chasing 61 for victory, Perranporth’s innings began explosively, with Erin leading the charge at a rapid scoring rate. Wadebridge’s sharp fielding earned them three wickets, keeping the contest competitive, but Erin remained composed, guiding her team to a three-wicket win with an unbeaten 26.

Redruth Edges Out Truro in a Thrilling Contest

The second fixture of the evening was highly anticipated, and it did not disappoint. Truro batted first but suffered an early setback as Rebecca Rowe chipped the ball back to Kayleigh Lean in the opening over. Lisa Harper and Lorraine then formed a crucial partnership, stabilizing the innings with smart running between the wickets and occasional boundaries.

Redruth’s bowlers maintained control, with Laura striking twice in one over, followed by another wicket from Charlie, halting Truro’s momentum. However, a late surge from Hannah Grice and Tamsin Heayn saw 27 runs added in the final two overs, setting Redruth a challenging 79 for victory.
Redruth’s reply got off to a flying start, amassing 40 runs in the first three overs, with Charlie and Kayleigh leading the charge. However, young bowler Ruby sparked a Truro fightback by dismissing Kayleigh for a powerful 24. Truro continued their resurgence with Rebecca Rowe and Lisa Harper picking up vital wickets, leaving Redruth needing 26 runs with only two wickets in hand.

In a historic moment for Cornish indoor cricket, Truro displayed great sportsmanship by allowing injured Redruth player Tegan Smith to bat with a runner. With the game hanging in the balance, Tegan, despite her fractured ankle, showcased resilience, guiding Redruth towards victory with well-judged running between the wickets. The match reached a dramatic conclusion as Tegan struck the winning runs with six balls remaining, finishing unbeaten on 17.

Match Results:

Wadebridge 60-5 vs. Perranporth 62-3 – Perranporth won by 3 wickets
Truro 78-5 vs. Redruth 79-5 – Redruth won by 1 wicket
