Callington and Tideford Win Big at East Softball League Festivals
The East Softball League festivals have been a huge success, with Callington and Tideford coming out on top in two exciting tournaments. After the great Truro Softball Festivals before Christmas, Cornwall Cricket Board brought the action to Liskeard’s Lux Park arena, where teams showed off their skills in some thrilling matches.
The first tournament, held on February 2nd, featured Callington, Liskeard, Menheniot, and Boconnoc. Callington dominated, winning all three of their matches, including a close two-run win over Liskeard. Liskeard put up a strong fight, winning two out of three games. Menheniot had four players from the Mothers and Daughters sessions at The Cricket Centre, and they worked well together to improve their game. Boconnoc also had reason to celebrate, picking up their first win with a 10-run victory over Menheniot.
The second tournament introduced Tideford and Lanhydrock, playing against Boconnoc and Menheniot. The energy was high, and all teams played with enthusiasm. Menheniot showed great improvement, while Lanhydrock earned their first-ever women’s team victory. Boconnoc kept their momentum going, winning three matches across both tournaments. However, it was Tideford, with help from Callington players, who stole the show by winning all three of their games with some powerful hitting.
Lanhydrock and Tideford’s success is great news for Cornwall Cricket. Both clubs reached out for coaching help in summer 2024, and their hard work is paying off. They’re now set to take part in the Women’s Summer League, and we can’t wait to see them in action.
Next up, Mount Ambrose will return to play against Liskeard, Callington, and Menheniot. The East Softball League festivals are proving to be a fantastic way for teams to grow and for women’s cricket in Cornwall to thrive.
