Cornwall Cricket Board Hosts First LGBTQ+ Cricket Event in the County

On Friday, 8th November 2024, Cornwall Cricket Board hosted its first-ever LGBTQ+ cricket event. This groundbreaking occasion, which is part of a project funded by the National Lottery, celebrated inclusivity, diversity, and a shared passion for cricket within the local LGBTQ+ community and beyond.

Glow in the Dark Cricket offered a fresh and engaging twist to the traditional game. Played under UV lighting, participants used fluorescent bats, balls, and accessories, creating a unique and visually appealing experience. This creative approach to the sport added an extra element of fun, making it an enjoyable evening for all involved.

Open to everyone, regardless of skill or experience, the event offered a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants to enjoy the game in a safe and supportive space. Cornwall Cricket’s dedication to diversity and inclusion was at the core of this event, making it not just a celebration of the sport but also a testament to the power of community.

Cornwall Cricket Board Community Engagement Lead Kellie Williams said: “Cornwall Cricket were delighted to host members of the LGBTQ+ community at the Cornwall Cricket Centre on Friday evening for a fun-filled glow-in-the-dark cricket event! I'm excited about the prospect of organising more events for the community in the future. Stay tuned for updates!”

Whether participants were avid cricketers or simply looking for a fun and unique night out, the event proved to be an unforgettable experience. Attendees came dressed in their brightest neon gear, ready for a night of glowing fun, laughter, and, most importantly, cricket!
