Cornwall Cricket Board Leads Community Effort to Bring Back Torpoint Cricket Club
Cornwall Cricket Board (CCB) is spearheading a community-driven campaign to revive Torpoint Cricket Club, with the backing of local schools and the wider Torpoint community. This collaborative initiative marks an exciting step towards reestablishing cricket as a central part of local life in the town.
Key partners in this effort include Carbeile Junior School and Torpoint Community School, who have been working closely with the Board to introduce Dynamos Cricket—a dynamic, fun-focused programme designed to engage children and spark interest in the sport. The programme has already begun to capture the imaginations of young people in the community, laying the foundation for the reestablishment of a local cricket club.
The project highlighted opportunities for different age groups to work together with year 10 students from Torpoint Community School acting as play leaders for the younger children. This provided the year 10’s with a great opportunity to develop themselves and their skills not only in cricket but in planning and leadership skills.
Schools Lead Chris Anderson said: "As we continue to embark on the journey to resurrect the cricket club in Torpoint, we’re not just reviving a sport; we’re reigniting a community spirit that brings us together. Cricket has the power to unite people of all ages, fostering teamwork, resilience, and friendship. Our aim is to create a welcoming environment where everyone can participate, learn, and thrive. With continued support, we will build not only a cricket club but a vibrant hub for social interaction and youth development. Together, let’s restore Torpoint’s cricket legacy and inspire the next generation of players and supporters."
Managing Director Joe Skinner added:”It’s an exciting time for Torpoint and the surrounding areas to bring cricket back to the area where the large population should have the ability to play cricket. As we know there used to be a Torpoint Cricket Club and the exciting element to this is its reincarnation. We want to start by providing young people with the opportunity to grow their enthusiasm which feeds parents and brings people back or into the game. It is fantastic that the local schools and families are committed to making this happen, exciting times!
The programme is the first step towards encouraging wider participation in the sport, fostering teamwork, discipline, and a love for cricket.
By reigniting local enthusiasm and involvement, the campaign aims to achieve a significant milestone—Torpoint once again having its own cricket club. The Cornwall Cricket Board and its partners are optimistic that this grassroots movement will lay the groundwork for a lasting legacy, providing future generations with access to high-quality cricket opportunities.
The community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive, and the Board encourages anyone with a passion for cricket or community development to get involved.
