Penzance were crowned the Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League County Champions on a balmy late summer evening at St Clare winning the title with a game to spare. They went into the penultimate day leading Callington by 13 points. They dismissed visitors St Austell for 55 and won by eight wickets in just over two hours. Jonny Ludlam took 3-9 and Dylan Blignaut 3-10. Jack Paull then made an unbeaten 34 with the match completed inside 33 overs.

The events at Callington were then followed keenly with the home side needing to beat Redruth to take the title race to the final day. The Callington openers Aidan Libby and Liam Lindsay were both dismissed with the total at 13. Seven home batsmen got into double figures with Graham Wagg top scoring with 23 in the 131 all out in the penultimate over. Redruth slipped to 40-3 but were seen home by an unbeaten 57 from Dulash Udayanga and won by five wickets just after six o’clock to set the celebrations off 70 miles away at Penzance. The club already had their annual curry and karaoke night planned. With a record 26th County title, and fourth out of the last five, to celebrate 'Simply the Best'  was a significant addition to the playlist!

Meanwhile, Camborne were confirmed as finishing bottom after losing at Werrington by 99 runs in a game they had to win to have any survival hopes on the final day. Vithanage Dilshan made 69 and Mark Gribble 80 as the home team piled up 251-7. Camborne were dismissed for 152 with Dilshan completing a fine game with 5-35. Camborne have yet to win in the second half of the season.

St Just made sure of survival with a 60-run home win over Helston who also secured their status with news of Camborne’s defeat. In nine games since the end of June St Just has only lost once with three weather affected. Neil Curnow top scored with 46 in their 189. Wadebridge can ensure a third-place finish with a final-day victory after a Callum Wilson-inspired victory over Truro. He helped bowl the visitors out for 137 taking 4-26 before top-scoring with 42 in the five wicket success.

Premier standings after 17 of 18 games: Penzance 259, Callington 230, Wadebridge 202, St Austell 195, Redruth 190, Werrington 186, Truro 184, St Just 184, Helston 168, Camborne 143

In County Division One the title race is going right down to the wire. Beacon were 29 points behind Grampound Road at the halfway mark but have caught them thanks to 13 wins on the bounce. Going into the final day both teams are level on 332 points but crucially Beacon won the head-to-head 24-23 so have it in their hands with a trip to Falmouth. The Road host Roche with both games a repeat of Sunday’s rescheduled games from April.

A flawless 126 from Jordan Thomas gave Beacon what might turn out to be decisive full batting points. They hit 52 off the last four overs to end on 261-6 with Falmouth dismissed for 106. The previous day Beacon won comfortably by eight wickets at Camborne Seconds.

Grampound Road had a six-wicket win at Roche with Ravi Karunarathna taking three wickets and making 28 not out. It came after a vital defeat at St Erme on Saturday by 107 runs which saw them lose the top spot they held since 1 June.

Mullion’s ten-run defeat at home to Falmouth condemned them to the drop zone. Looking set for victory Mullion lost their last eight wickets for 37 runs with Antony Angove taking a remarkable 8-35. Mullion has only won once in eight starts since the end of June and also suffered three cancellations in the period.

Despite the defeat on Sunday Roche got the bonus points required to ensure survival with a game to spare, having moved out of the bottom four for the first time in the previous week. The previous day they had an emphatic ten-wicket home win over Penzance Seconds - a third successive win getting them out of trouble.

Hayle won by 123 runs at Newquay with Benjamin Homan making 81.  Damon Nicholls took 5-34 and Ben Brooks hit 61 as Paul secured a swift home win over Wadebridge Seconds.

County 1 standings after 21 of 22 games: Beacon 332, Grampound Road 332, Hayle 288, Paul 261, St Erme 258. Falmouth 253, Newquay 238, Roche 225, Mullion 203, Wadebridge II 180, Camborne II 179, Penzance II 82.
