With six games to play Penzance lead the Bond Timber Premier Division by 17 points from Callington ahead of their clash at St Clare on Saturday. It could have been much closer had Penzance not squeezed home by two wickets with just two balls to spare in their home game with Helston. All seven visiting batters got double figures as Helston posted 216-5 in their fifty overs. Dan Jenkin (38) and Billy Taylor (29) put on 61 for the first wicket. Karl Leathley batted to the close ending on 65 not out. Penzance were 85-4 but opener Christian Purchase made 103 before being seventh out at 172. Jonny Ludlam then made 32 before being run out but Tom Dinnis (17no) secured the win with seven needed off the final over. Penzance face a big weekend with the T20 Area Finals day at Bridgwater on Sunday where they take on South Wales champions Newport in the semi-final. Bristol plays Exmouth in the morning semi-final.
Callington kept the pressure on with a 59-run home win over St Austell in a 40-over game due to a delayed start at Moores Park. Liam Lindsay’s 66 saw the home side to 190-5. St Austell were restricted to 131-7 with Graham Wagg taking 3-26. St Just moved off the bottom after winning at Wadebridge by three wickets with eight balls to spare. James Turpin (66no) and Kelvin Snell (54) got runs as the home side posted 217-5. After Philip Nicholas made 59 the visitors were seen home by Chamikara Edirisinghe’s 84 not out.
At Werrington, Sam Hockin took 5-53 to bowl Truro out for 166. Adam Hodgson made an unbeaten 53 to secure the seven-wicket win. Camborne find themselves at the foot of the table after a 36 runs Duckworth Lewis home defeat against Local rivals Redruth. Alec MacInnes made 49 not out in the Red's total of 175-7 which was reduced to 46 overs following a rain shower. Camborne’s target was adjusted to 181 but they ended on 144 all out with MacInnes and Piran Kent sharing six wickets.

In County Division One the top two both won with Grampound Road’s lead over Paul 18 points with a game in hand. The Road made 216-8 at home to Wadebridge Seconds with Harry Gregory scoring 49. Ravi Karunarathna then claimed 6-25 in the 75 runs success. The Road are at Falmouth on Saturday before Sunday’s Voneus Village Cup semi-final against Cambridgeshire’s Foxton Granta with the early start time of noon. Paul defeated Camborne Seconds by seven wickets with Ross Williams making 68 in their 144-3.
Beacon are up to third after a sixth-successive win. They made 255-7 at Roche with Sam James hitting 73 and Jack Thomas 51. The Roche reply was wrecked by Gareth Mankee who took 7-23 in their 187 all out. They had been 59-8 before James Cole made 54 and Oscar Green was last out for 62. Newquay lost ground as Falmouth got an important win at the Sports Centre. Michael Harding made 58 as the hosts scored 143. James Tomlinson got an unbeaten 54 to give Falmouth a 20-point cushion above the drop zone.
Mullion are only six points clear of danger and have played a game more. They narrowly lost at home to St Erme by seven runs. Penzance Seconds are still looking for success after losing by seven wickets at Hayle and are 66 points adrift at the bottom.
