History repeated itself on Saturday with all 71 Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League games cancelled following heavy morning rain that swept across the county. Exactly the same happened on the corresponding July Saturday in 2023 when all 69 games were cancelled on the day. There have been four 100% washouts in the last two seasons compared to only two in the previous seven seasons going back to 2015.

It leaves seven games to play in the Premier Division with Penzance leading Callington by 16 points. The pair meet at Penzance on 3 August. Just two points separate St Just, Camborne and Helston at the bottom in the bid to avoid the one relegation spot.

Standings after 11 of 18 games: Penzance 163, Callington 147, Wadebridge 143, St Austell 132, Redruth 128, Truro 124, Werrington 106, Helston 102, Camborne 100, St Just 100.

In County Division One there was an important rescheduled game on Sunday with Wadebridge Seconds defeating Roche by 27 runs – a third win from their last four starts. Four teams are set to be relegated owing to the ten-team restructure for 2025 as voted by 58% of all league clubs before the start of the season. Penzance Seconds (56), Camborne Seconds (121), Roche (145) and Wadebridge (146) currently fill the bottom four positions. However, Mullion (150 having played a game more), Falmouth (152) and St Erme (161) will be nervously looking over their shoulders. At the top Grampound Road leads Paul by 19 points with a game in hand.

Grampound Road won through to the Voneus Village Cup semi-finals for the second year running on Sunday with a dramatic four-run home win over Gloucestershire's Painswick. The Road made 191 for 6 with Tom Orpe scoring 62 and Chris Roberts 58. Painswick reached 118 for 2 but lost wickets to end on 187 all out. Tom Hughes took 4-34. In a tense finish, the last pair added 18 runs before Tom Fox-Dean took the vital wicket with five balls remaining. Grampound Road will host Cambridgeshire’s Foxton Granta in the semi-final on 4 August,

The  Vingoe Family Law Andrew Cup Final was a well-contested affair played out on a warm evening at Mount Ambrose. The issue went down to the final over before Redruth Thirds, including six Under 15s,  defeated Falmouth Seconds by nine runs after scoring 128-6. It is the fourth time Redruth has won the Trophy – the last 33 years ago in 1991.
