Possibly a landmark for Cornish Cricket as women dominate openage cricket team
Last Sunday marked a milestone for Perranporth 3rd, as their open-age cricket team featured more women than men for the first time.
In a Division 6 Central league match against Falmouth 4th, six of Perranporth's 11 players were women. Five of these women bowled, each securing at least one wicket. The two female opening batters, Erin and Molly, contributed 37 runs for the first wicket in a chase of 81. Additionally, Falmouth's female opening bowler claimed a wicket.
Previously Grampound Road have had 5 female members and Beacon have had 4, but never a majority female.
Coach Russell Wilson said: “It Might be the first time ever for more Women than men making it a landmark day for Cornish Cricket!”
Perranporth won the game by 7 wickets scoring 83-3 (21.3 overs) against Falmouths 81 All Out.
