For the third successive week, the weather again ruined the Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket programme on Saturday. The improved conditions of the previous fortnight meant 38 of the original 72 fixtures were scheduled to go ahead. However, rain in some parts on Friday coupled with a spell of persistent rain from lunchtime on Saturday accounted for 19 further cancellations with eight others abandoned.
Ten games were played to a finish in the north and east at Bude, Holsworthy, Callington, Luckett and around the southern coast at St Austell, St Stephen, Veryan, Gerrans, Rosudgeon and Gulval.
April has been a month to forget with only 18 of 192 games played to a finish with eight abandoned and one conceded. A total of 78 games have been cancelled including the Premier T20 Cup. Overall 44 games have been cancelled by agreement before the match day with teams unable to agree to a new date.
Two games did start in County Division 1 but less than 30 overs were possible before the weather set in. Making their debut at this level Camborne's seconds were in trouble at 62-7 at Beacon and likewise, Hayle struggled to 48-6 at home to Newquay.
Elsewhere there was a tremendous game at Gulval where Wendron chased down 239 to win by two wickets off the final ball. Rosudgeon's seconds marked their return to the League in a remarkable game at home to Hayle Thirds. The visitors were at one stage 0-6 before recovering to make 32. The home side won by seven wickets.
