Cornwall Cricket Board appoint a Women and Girls Development Officer
Nick Mattews has been appointed as the Women and Girls' Development Officer for Cornwall Cricket and commenced the role on the 22nd April 2024.
The role focuses on the development of the girls game. Encouraging girls to pick up a bat and ball from the school environment and link them in to participation in the club game. To support this growth, Nick will support clubs in the development of their training and competition structures whilst developing the clubs workforce.
Nick stated, "I am excited to embark on this role and promote the game as much as possible. I believe that it’s a really exciting time for the Women’s and Girl’s game in Cornwall to grow and develop. The structure of Women’s and Girls cricket has been shaped really well over the last few years and I believe we are in a position to grow on our existing strengths and add new exciting initiatives and ideas to help increase our numbers of players from every age group, alongside increasing the amount of playing activity all year round. In the next few weeks I will be visiting and communicating with schools and clubs in order to fully understand the capacity of the Women’s and Girls game and to identify all the exciting growth opportunities. My aim will be to work with clubs in particular to set and achieve realistic goals and ambition. A specific ambition of mine will be working with Clubs to promote Girls cricket at a young age and support the initiative of inspiring a generation of female cricketers in Cornwall."
"This is truely exciting, Nick is passionate about cricket, a lovely person who will conect with clubs, players and club officials alike. Nick understands Cornish cricket. He has experience in setting up youth and women's cricket activity which stands him in good stead to support clubs with existing activity and clubs wishing to set up womens or girl's cricket. Nick will get stuck in and deliver in schools over the summer, but we expect Nick to make an early positive impact in setting up and facilitating girls festivals that are accessible across the county. I am confident that the women's game will get behind Nick and assist in creating opportunities for the female players. We want to make cricket a game for all."
