Cornwall Cricket Board appoint a new Chair
Cornwall Cricket Board have appointed Mr Derek Law MBE as Chair of the organisation as of the 21st November 2023. Derek will commence in post with immediate effect taking over from Mrs Anita George who retired from the position due to exhausting the term limits.
Cornwall Cricket Board would like to extend their gratitude toward Anita for her service to the organisation for many years of service.
Derek Law comes with a multitude of experience of business management and governance. Derek worked as a Corporate Director in Adult and Social Care for Yorkshire County Council where, in 2010, he received the MBE from the late Queen Elizabeth for outstanding services to the North Yorkshire Community. More recently, here in Cornwall, Derek was Group Chair and Non Executive Director for Coastline Housing Ltd in Cornwall.
Derek has a passion for sport, especially Golf and can often be seen playing at Perrenporth Golf Club. Whilst Derek's passion is golf, he is interested in cricket and was a player at recreational level. We know that Derek has the time and passion to want to make a difference and he knows that sport is a powerful tool to helping people and communities grow for the better.
Joe Skinner, Managing Director of Cornwall Cricket Board stated, 'Cornwall Cricket are excited about Derek's appointment as Chair, he comes with a passion for doing good and helping people in sport which is exciting. Derek has already shown an interest in what Cornwall Cricket is doing and acted as a sounding board for ideas and projects. We are confident that Derek has the time to devote to cricket and will fit in extremely well and help to shape cricket for the better in the county.'
In responding to his appointed Derek Law said, ‘I feel deeply honoured and privileged to have been appointed as Cornwall Cricket Boards Chair and will be striving to build on the great work Anita has previously orchestrated. In my passionate quest to ensure cricket impacts positively on people and communities in Cornwall I already know that I will be working together with some fantastically experienced, talented and skilled staff, Directors and volunteers and I can't wait to get 'stuck in' and to meet up with those involved at club and county level to deepen my understanding of the opportunities and inevitable challenges ahead’
