Girls Dynamos Activation Projects

The Cornwall Cricket Board (CCB) is currently offering cricket opportunities to over 70 girls under the age of 11 across the county through the ECB’s Dynamo’s Activation Project.

The Girls Dynamos Activation Project is an initiative from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) designed to introduce girls to cricket from a young age. The ECB funds free, paid opportunities for girls to participate in cricket at their local clubs.

The CCB has partnered with four clubs across the county to deliver this exciting opportunity. Falmouth, St Austell, Roche, and St Erme cricket clubs have fully embraced the initiative, providing their own coaches to work alongside CCB coaches. The long-term goal is to establish or further develop girls’ cricket sections at these clubs.

Roche CC have recently concluded their programme, Coach Anthony Leaney said:: “The girls Dynamos project has been a great success with the help of Nick. We had good numbers every week and have got 12 young girls into cricket and they all have had great fun. We have already had requests from parents to continue the sessions throughout the winter! Something we are actively looking to sort as soon as possible! This will hopefully help strengthen our newly formed women’s and girls section. It was great to see the girls get fully involved into the session and learning the basics of cricket and learning new skills. I believe the sessions will have a long standing positive effect for Roche CC and the women's game in the future. And will recommend this scheme to any clubs thinking about it.”

Volunteer Coach, Craig Mouett from Falmouth added: “Falmouth Cricket Club is really pleased to share the success of our five-week Dynamos Activation program, introducing girls aged 8–11 to the game in a fun, welcoming and light-hearted environment. Each session was packed with smiles, energy and plenty of laughs, backed by our brilliant coaches and club legends from the ladies’ and junior teams who jumped in to help. The program’s been a real win for the club too, strengthening community ties and sparking excitement for the next generation of female Falmouth cricketers, pretty awesome if you ask us!

The four teams will be welcomed in two Under-11 Girls’ Festivals at Truro College in the new year. The hope is that all participants will have a fantastic first experience playing matches against other clubs, fostering a lasting love for the game.

Nick Matthews added: “Once we had set up the projects with the various clubs, we went into local schools in order to advertise this amazing opportunity that has been offered to us via the ECB. The numbers of girls signing up and participating, over the 4 clubs, is really good and is a real stepping stone for our ambition of ‘Inspiring a generation of Female Cricketers in Cornwall’.
