Camborne – Camborne 129-6 (L Weeks 45, D Kritzinger 37; A Libby 2-7, T Dinnis 2-18) lost to Penzance 133-5 (19) (C Gibson 30, J Ludlam 30no, J Paull 26no, B Seabrook 20) by five wickets
Penzance won a 17th Bradleys Vinter Cup Final but they didn’t have it all their own way in a well-contested final at Camborne who were making their first appearance since 2005.
Having been restricted to 41 for 2 at the halfway mark Camborne recovered to 129 for 6.
Dylan Kritzinger made 37 and Player of the Match Liam Weeks got 45 adding 69 for the fourth wicket. Tom Dinnis was the pick of the Penzance attack having Simon Hosking caught at mid-wicket and returning to have Alfie MacDonald caught with his four overs costing 18 runs and including a rare T20 maiden.
In reply, Chris Gibson (30) and Ben Seabrook (20) got Penzance off to a lively start as they reached 52 before Seabrook was bowled by Alfie MacDonald in the sixth over. Gibson followed four balls later to Dan Stephens.
Camborne came well back into the game when three wickets fell in the space of 10 balls. Jacob MacDonald had Kian Burns stumped by Weeks. Christian Purchase holed out to Alfie Macdonald in front of the pavilion and Simon Keene sliced Jamie Goldsworthy to Simon Hosking at backward point.
At 81 for five in the 12th over it was ‘game on’.
However, Jack Paull (26no) and Jonny Ludlam (30no) kept their heads to secure a five-wicket victory. With 18 needed off three overs Ludlam relieved the pressure with a maximum and two boundaries in the penultimate over deciding the issue with six balls to spare. They put on an unbroken 52 for the sixth wicket.
St Austell will host Penzance in the W T Edwards Cup Final on Wednesday 12 July.
The last meeting of the clubs in a Vinter Cup Final was in 1963 - exactly 60 years ago.
