Redruth U13 crowned 2022 County Champions
The Cornwall Under 13s County Final was played under sunny skies (a bit too sunny by the end) at Wadebridge Cricket Club between eastern section winners Werrington and Redruth, the western section winners.
Winning the toss Werrington batted first but faced disciplined bowling throughout the innings, Billy Uglow top scoring with 18 and captain Edward Walters scoring 15 in the total of 89-8. Redruth captain Toby Stoddard took 3 wickets in the last over after Archie Thompson took 2 for 11 earlier.
In reply Stoddard (24) and Ethan Best (13) shared a 44 run opening partnership before 4 wickets fell for 6 runs with Sam Smeeth taking 3. Jack Pengilly (23) and Harley Stevens (19no) however got Redruth back in pole position with Stevens hitting the winning runs with 10 balls remaining and 5 wickets in hand. Smeeth ended up with 4-29.
Redruth now go on to represent Cornwall against Tiverton Heathcoat in the next round of the National Cup.
Many congratulations go to both teams for playing the game in a good, competitive spirit, and thanks to Wadebridge CC for hosting.
