A band of very heavy morning rain that swept across the county threatened a major disruption but with an improving forecast 29 games were able to go ahead, with a number of late starts. A total of 34 were not played due to the weather, the majority in the east.
The top of the table clash in the Premier League at Truro was reduced to 25 overs. Truro were reduced to 101-9 with Harry Phillips making 31 not out. Penzance reached the target for three wickets with eight balls to spare to open up a 56 point lead over Truro with five games to play. St Just consolidated third spot with an eight-wicket win over Callington at Cape Road, where a full game took place, the poor weather having cleared the far west by lunchtime. An early finish looked on the cards when Callington were reduced to 17-4 but Dan Davis (42), Nick Parker (30) and Alex Mortimore (49) got them to 156. County bowler Ben Ellis took 4-23. Steve Kevern made 55 and Neil Curnow was unbeaten on 68 as the home side won by eight wickets with eleven balls to spare. A 35 over match was played at Redruth where Grampound Road were contained to 93-8. Toby Whiteford then hit 54 to see the ‘Reds’ to a seven-wicket victory with ten overs to spare. The St Austell v Camborne and Werrington v Wadebridge games were both cancelled.
In County Division 1 there was a thrilling game at Falmouth where the leaders Hayle won, but only just. Scott Kellow hit a century (110) as the home side posted 207-4 in a 35 over game. Hayle slipped to 140-6 and needed 68 off 40 balls. James Franklin made 40 before being dismissed in the last over, which began with eleven required. Six were needed off two balls when Wayne Jenkin deposited the penultimate ball for a maximum to end on 45 not out. Hayle lead Helston by 19 points with five to play. Helston won at Paul after making 130 all out in a 40 over game at Hutchens Park. The home side were bowled out for 100 with Gavin Tregenza taking 3-15. Beacon remain third after a 14 run victory at St Erme. Jordan Thomas top-scored with 49 in their 136-8. St Austell seconds are still without a win after losing at Gorran by 105 runs, for whom Jamie Tabb made 37 and took three wickets. Lanhydrock v Redruth seconds and Newquay v Werrington seconds were both cancelled
The evening season concluded with a busy week of Cup Finals. Gulval retained the Peter George Memorial Cup with victory over St Just at Penzance. Mount Hawke & Porthtowan won the Mining League’s ‘Michael Evans Trophy’ with victory over Mullion in a close run game at Helston. The next evening Mullion seconds won the Dawe Insurance Andrew Cup when they defeated Hayle seconds at Mount Ambrose by seven runs.
