Western Storm 2021 Squad features two Cornish
Western Storm have just released their 2021 squad and we are delighted to see that two of the squad are very much of Cornish origin!
Although Emily Edgcombe and Nicole Harvey are currently playing county cricket for Devon and Somerset respectively due to the higher leagues they play in, they grew up playing for Cornwall and both of them still live in the county.
Emily, who was also part of the Western Storm set up last summer, is currently injured with a broken finger.
"I am so grateful to have this opportunity again, I can't wait to get back to training and playing with the girls after my injury set back. Being in an environment with players like Sophie Luff, Georgia Hennessy and the England girls is such a motivation for me to play and train at my best."
Nicole is married to current Cornwall senior men's captain Scott Harvey, and is in her first year within the Storm set up after several years of very strong and consistent performances for Somerset.
"This is a very exciting time to be involved in women's cricket. It is something that I have worked incredibly hard for over a number of years and it is an honour to be selected for the Western Storm. I cannot wait to get started."
Chris Hunkin, Performance Development Manager for Cornwall Cricket, was quick to praise both of them:
"It's brilliant to see two Cornish girls venturing into professional cricket in this country, they are both an inspiration to the many girls who are now playing the game in Cornwall, special credit must go to Nicole after the past year she has experienced, a truly touching story and a reflection of her character to be where she is now."
