Another unsettled week saw a spell of very windy and wet weather on Friday. Despite Saturday becoming an improving day with plenty of sunshine, albeit remaining cool,  the damage had been done with 13 matches cancelled and others having delayed starts.

For the second week running Penzance were indebted to Tom Wells. Batting first against St Austell at St Clare the champions were reduced to 113-8 but recovered thanks to an unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 111 between Wells and Glyn Furnival. Wells ended on 128 not out off 145 balls that included 4 sixes and 11 fours.  Furnival made 27 not out. St Austell were reduced to 83-8 themselves before ending on 133 with Gary Bone undefeated on 46.

St Just share top spot being the only other team with two wins. A fourth-wicket stand of 98 between Max Waller (63) and Philip Nicholas (43) got them to 143-3 at one stage at Wadebridge. Chamikara Edirisinghe made an unbeaten 43 to see the total to 217-9. Callum Wilson took 4-38. Ben Stevens then took 5-23 to reduce the hosts to 101 all out with Tom Mclachlan’s 43 the only real resistance.

The quickest finish of the day was at Grampound Road where there was only 30 overs play. The home side were shot out for just 50 in 22 overs with Callington’s Harry Sawyers taking 6-12 from five overs. Aidan Libby then made a quickfire 38 in the ten-wicket victory.

The finish of the day came at Camborne where the home side prevailed over Truro by one wicket with four balls to spare. Rob Harrison made 37 for Truro in their 136 all out with home skipper Martin Jenkin taking 3-16 from ten overs. Camborne slipped to 72-6 before Jenkin and Liam Weeks put on 43 to be seemingly moving to victory. However, three late wickets meant the last man, seventeen-year-old  Jake MacDonald, came to the crease with nine still required. In a tense finish, Liam Weeks ended on 70 not out off 96 balls to secure victory off the third ball of the last over.

There was an hour’s delay at Werrington where Redruth made 132 all out in the 40 over game. Toby Whiteford and Luke Johnson both made 32. Mark Gribble hit 57 in the home reply but they were all out for 123 thanks to Craig Johnson’s 6-29.

Hayle top County Division 1 following a 129 run home win over Lanhydrock. In a family affair, Paul Lello made 73 and son Matt 65 in the 230-8. James Franklin took 5-32. The Leathley brothers dominated Helston’s win over Werrington seconds at Beacon Park by four wickets. Ben Jenkin made 55 in Werrington’s 155-6. Karl Leathley made 49 before Ross (49no) and Guy (29no) put together a match-winning seventh-wicket stand of 77.

Promoted Paul are third after winning at St Austell by 52 runs in a 25 over match. Kameron Collins made 75 in the 170-6. Falmouth won by six wickets at Beacon reaching 183-6 with Scott Kellow making 60 and Adrian Noott 41.

Newquay won a 30 over match at Redruth with Grant Stone making 44 in the 151—4. Redruth seconds ended six runs short of victory. There was also a close finish at St Erme where Robin Kendall hit 60 in Gorran’s 160. Elliot Dodd took 4-39. St Erme finished on 150 all out.
