FIRST EVER CORNWALL SUPER 9s DISABILITY CRICKET MATCH AGAINST WALES
Sunday witnessed the first ever competitive disability match in Cornwall with our representative team taking on Cricket Wales hosted at Redruth CC.
The weather was fantastic, a really hot day at Redruth saw Josh Raven, Cornwall’s captain lose the toss and we were invited to bat.
Ben Mailes {Mullion cc} and Brendan Prouse {Foxhole cc} were opening the batting for the very first time.
Ben Mailes was beaten by some late swing which ended the opening partnership. Credit to them both as the opening partnership lasted 12 overs. Unfortunately, two quick wickets then followed, Josh Raven {St Stephen} and Daniel Herriott {Mawan}. This brought Treeve Tickner {Troon} and Leon Roderick together, putting on a great middle order partnership ensuring Cornwall had a defendable total. Cornwall ended on 131 - 4.
Treeve and Leon open the bowling for Cricket Wales reply. There was with some very tight overs but unfortunately Cornwall missed a couple of chances but luckily enough Cornwall there was a mix up from the opening pair and Cornwall were awarded with our first wicket.
A change of bowling worked for Cornwall as Josh, Brendan and Leon took a wicket each but unfortunately Cricket Wales managed to chase down the total with 3 overs left losing 5 wickets.
A hugely positive step for Cornish Cricket and a huge thank you to everyone who helped making this a reality.
Thanks to Mark Richards from Redruth CC, Darren Hearley and Ian Wilkinson for umpiring, and Mark Perry the scorer, the coaching staff head coach Dan Tonkin, team manager Wayne Bilkey and assistants David Painter and Gary Tremain.
We must not forget Jan Raven for a fabulous half time cricket tea!!! It was excellent and most appreciated by all.
Wish Cornwall Super 9s luck with their upcoming away match against Gloucestershire on Sunday 26th May.
