Cornwall have qualified the the NCCA T20 Super 12’s with two games to spare.
They won the first game against Dorset at Wimborne after making 213-7 with pro Alex Blake blasting 101. He hit 10 sixes and 7 fours off 35 balls before being third out at 146 in the tenth over. Will MacVicar supported with 48 and Dan Lello got 33 late on.
Dorset just fell short by six runs in a valiant reply. They were 93-2 at the halfway mark. Opener Finn Gordon made 95 before being third out at 188 at the beginning of the 17th over. The target was reduced to 16 off two overs with seven wickets left but crucially, MacVicar only conceded a single and took two wickets in the penultimate over leaving 15 required off the last. Xavie Clarke's first ball went for six but only a couple of singles and two wickets followed to see the innings end on 207-7.
In the second game, Dorset got revenge after Paul Smith made 75 in Cornwall’s 179-7. After Alex Bone made 24 the first four wickets fell for 61 and that became 122-7 with five overs remaining. Smith and Jake Rowe added an unbeaten 57 for the eighth wicket.
In an unbroken partnership, the Dorset openers Will Tripcony (76no) and Finn Gordon (101no) superbly knocked off the runs with three overs to spare.
Cornwall still top the group and will hope to cement that at St Austell against Herefordshire on Sunday, to have the opportunity for home advantage in the Super 12s.
