Cornwall’s return to Championship cricket at Helston for the first time since 1994 saw the disappointment of days two and three washed out without a ball bowled.

On the opening day, in sunshine, Oxfordshire were dismissed for 299. Cornwall reached  61-1 off 18 overs at stumps.

Oxfordshire won the toss and elected to bat

Jamie Harrison (8) was dismissed in the 13th over by Ben Ellis having faced 45 balls with the score at 26.    Karl Leathley held a second catch to remove Luke Hayes for 61 after lunch. Will MacVicar and Adam Hodgson both took two wickets as Hayden Rossouw went for 86 at 183-5  off 60 overs, forty minutes before tea. Tristan Rossouw ended on  48 not out as the last four wickets fell for 24 runs to give Cornwall maximum bowling points. Jake Rowe ended with 3-42 from nine overs.

In the final seventy minutes of the day Billy Taylor, on his home ground, was bowled by Tom Rex for six in the fourth over.  Karl Leathley hit four scoring shots, all boundaries in his 16 not out off 49 balls.  Alex Blake found the boundary seven times in his unbeaten 34 off 54 balls.

After a couple of attempts to start in the afternoon, the match was abandoned at 16:00
