Patrons of Cornwall Cricket Trust

We are delighted that our patrons are Clive Radley (England and Middlesex CC – Clive scored well over 25,000 runs in his First Class career) and Liam Norwell (the current Gloucestershire CC fast bowler and Cornwall born). The Trust is immensely grateful for their support and encouragement.

 Clive Radley

Clive was a England, Middlesex and Norfolk Minor County Cricket player. Clive played for England in eight tests making his debut against New Zealand in 1977-78 at the age of 34. Clive played his First Class cricket for Middlesex County and made 559 appearances in all.

Clive was classed as a determined and hard working batsman who had his England career cut short through injury. Playing under Mike Brearley’s England side in 8 tests, Clive averaged a an excellent 48.10, scoring two hundreds and two fifties, with a highest score of 158 against New Zealand.

Clive’s brief test career came to an end in the 1978-79 tour of Australia when he was hit on the head in the first test of the series.  Clive went on to play for Middlesex County well into his 40’s, scoring more than 26,441 runs. On his retirement from playing Clive become the MCC Head Coach which ended in 2009.

Clive has said about being involved with The Cornwall Cricket Trust,

“When the Trust asked me to be its first Patron I jumped at the chance. I hope that all Cornish cricket lovers will join me in supporting the new venture so that as many aspiring cricketers as possible can benefit”.


Liam Norwell

Liam is currently playing First Class cricket at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club. Born in Bournemouth but brought up in Redruth, Cornwall, Liam made his first class debut in 2011 against Derbyshire at the age of 19.  Liam is a right arm seamer and on debut; Liam took a very impressive six wickets for 46 runs in 11 overs, and has best figures of six for 33.

Liam has had some success worth the bat also, recording his maiden First-Class hundred in 2016 against Derbyshire, scoring 102 as a night watchman. Liam also holds the record for the 10th wicket partnership at Gloucestershire when batting at No.11, when he made 78 in a stand of 137 with Craig Miles.

Liam has played 55 First Class matches and in total taken 189 wickets at 29.63 so far.

Liam played his junior and senior cricket for Redruth Cricket Club in Cornwall before progressing to the Gloucestershire Academy and in to their First Class squad. Liam also went through the Cornwall Schools Cricket Association consistently taking wickets over the seasons at an average of just over 20.

When asked to be a Patron of the Cornwall Cricket Trust Liam mentioned,

“Grassroots cricket in Cornwall has a place close to my heart, it’s where I learnt the game and fell in love with the game. I am delighted to be asked to be a Patron because it means I can help give back to something that’s given me so much.”
