The recent selection by Western Storm for their development centre programme has resulted in two girls from Cornwall being selected.

Amber Cummins (17) from Bude and Ellie Mitchell (15) from Helston have been selected for the programme. The programme which is in its 2nd year will support their development through sessions in Bristol, Exeter and Taunton throughout the upcoming winter months, the girls will be training with the very best girls of their age within the South West.

Western Storm who are currently led in a coaching capacity by Trevor Griffin, are the current holders of the Kia Super league which is the pinnacle of the domestic womens’ game in England, being involved in their development squads gives them a step on the pathway to hopefully representing the full Western Storm team one day.

Both Amber and Ellie have been representing Cornwall at various levels over the past few seasons, Amber captained the U17’s county team last summer as well as playing in the county senior side, Amber is a top order batter and very useful medium pace bowler, very athletic and a superb fielder. Ellie is an aggressive top/middle order batter and leg spinner who is also a brilliant fielder, Ellie played a huge amount of cricket in 2017 turning out for Cornwall at U15, U17 and senior level.

Both girls had a bonus at the end of the 2017 season by being selected in regional teams for the national school games finals at Loughborough which was streamed live on the internet, both girls have ambitions to play for England in the future and are full named players on the Cornwall Emerging Players Programme.
