St Gluvias beat Mount Hawke & Porthtowan by 43 runs to win the Mining Division Evening League Final at Camborne Cricket Club.
Former MDEL Secretary/Treasurer Michael Evans, St Gluvias skipper Sam Duckham & the ‘Michael Evans Trophy’
St Gluvias won the Mining Division Evening League for the first time. The match started in overcast conditions and by the end the mist had descended with all involved doing well to get the game completed. St Gluvias had 77 on the board in ten overs thanks to a hard hit 33 from man of the match Andrew Julian, that included a couple of straight sixes. New overseas player Wesley Bedja continued the momentum hitting five boundaries in his 31 not out. At the end Ben Pascoe picked up four wickets in just two overs.
Needing 128 Mount Hawke & Porthtowan were 40-2 off eight overs but wickets fell quickly in failing light as they were bowled out for 82 in the 16th over. Ryan Thomas top scored with 17 and Julian Osborne was 16 not out. The last six wickets fell for just 19 runs with Matt Julian taking four for 14.
The Cornwall Cricket League were delighted that former Secretary Mike Evans, who also ran the MDEL for 43 years, was able to present the newly commissioned ‘Michael Evans Trophy’ to the winning captain. It will be competed for by MDEL clubs annually in the future. Having spent over three months in hospital in a couple of spells since the end of last season it was his first cricket of the summer. In presenting the awards he said he was “honoured” to have the trophy named after him.
