Werrington win the Premier League and Helston win County Dision 1

WERRINGTON have won the LWC Drinks Cornwall Premier League pipping Penzance by just one point. The North Cornwall club could afford to make no mistakes yesterday after Penzance wrapped up a maximum points win in quick time at home to Callington. Werrington then needed the full 20 points themselves and achieved it with an eight wicket win over Falmouth


Falmouth were bowled out for 146, after recovering from 48 for 6 thanks to Olly Paull’s 92.


Werrington reached the target for the loss of two wickets to clinch their fourth title in seven years.


Penzance kept the pressure on to the end with a nine-wicket home win over Callington.

Callington were bowled out for 139.

Penzance replied with 142 for one.


Third-placed Truro won by nine wickets at Grampound Road.

Grampound Road were bowled out for 105.

Truro ended on 109 for one.


St Austell finished fourth after an 11 run win at Redruth.

Matt Ellison made 88 in St Austell’s 232 all out.

Redruth replied with  221 for 9.


James Turpin smashed 125 as Wadebridge hit 252 at home to St Just.

St Just were 87-5 when rain stopped play with Wadebridge winning by 53 runs on the Duckworth Lewis Method.


In County Division 1 Helston took the title by 11 points after winning at Roche by ten wickets. St Erme, Roche and Newquay end in the bottom three.


The final day results were:

Roche 99 all out lost to Helston 102 without loss


Launceston 77 all out lost to Troon 78 without loss


Newquay 214 for 9 lost to Beacon 215 for 7


Lanhydrock 125 all out lost to Gorran 128 for 6


Rosudgeon 286 all out beat Werrington seconds 146 all out


Redruth seconds 274 for 8 beat St Erme 72 all out



Today it’s the Eden Motorhomes Division 2 T20 Cup Finals Day at Redruth

Hayle play Stithians at 10.30am and

Gulval take on Ludgvan  at 1.30pm
