Preview

Tonight sees the sixtieth Hawkey Cup Final, taking place at St Austell Cricket Club (6.00pm). The competition began in 1958 with Mr Croydon Hawkey of Wadebridge donating the trophy, which was won by his hometown club. It is also the 25th consecutive year of sponsorship of the competition by Clive Rosevear Insurance. Fittingly one of Clive’s former clubs, holders Grampound Road, take on Werrington in an all Premier League clash. Grampound Road will be looking for a fifth competition win. They beat St Minver by 66 runs last year.  In a ten year period from 2005 Werrington won the trophy on five occasions but in the last two years lost semi-finals to Callington and St Minver respectively..
