Cornwall U17’s and senior ladies player Ellie Mitchell has been selected for the England Women’s Academy. The 16 year old leg spinner and batter from Helston will have regular trips up to Loughborough to be part of a programme which is designed to support players to maximise their chances of transition into the England squad in the future.
Ellie expressed her shock at the selection and mentioned that she wasn’t expecting the call when it came through a few weeks ago, when asked what it is like being apart of the squad Ellie said,
” I knew a couple of the girls on the programme, but I was so nervous and a bit scared before I got up there, once we got started on the first weekend I felt much more at ease as I got to know the other girls on the programme and that put my mind at ease, now I can’t wait to get up there and get started again.”
Ellie’s ambitions for the future are to represent the full England Women’s team and eventually become the best spinner in the world in the Women’s game. Ellie is and continues to work extremely hard on achieving her goals.
Chris Hunkin Cornwall’s Performance Manager commented,
“Ellie deserves this opportunity through her hard work and determination, these skills will stand her in good stead, Ellie is fortunate to have such a supportive family around her who commit huge amounts of time and effort in travelling around the country with her, she is a very able and physical player who can dominate with her batting, bowling and fielding, she has a great personality which is incredibly infectious, we look forward to seeing the next stage of her development.”
Ellie is currently studying at Truro College and is very driven to achieve her targets of achieving the grades she needs to go to University. For more information on the England Women’s Academy please click here to see more
