Paul Chapman head groundsman at Wadebridge Cricket Club has landed a role as Groundsman at Hampshire County Cricket Club at The Ageas Bowl starting in February.
He said, “It will be a busy summer there with 6 World Cup games, 2 one-day England matches and Australia coming on 1st July for a two-week training camp.”
He added, “I will miss Wadebridge massively especially with the county coming on 26 May but producing international wickets is a complete honour.”
“This is a dream boyhood job come true and I just can’t wait to get to Southampton and start.”
“I was at Wimbledon for over six years and one of my main duties was looking after the 19 show courts. In the picture, I’m cutting centre court which I did many times plus number one court. So I’m no stranger to looking after world class turf and what’s expected. This will be a similar role at The Ageas looking after world class turf and practice pitches which I’m well at home doing.”
Paul is a committee member of the Cornwall Association of Cricket Groundsmen.
Wadebridge returned to the Premier League last year after more than two decades.
Their ground at Egloshayle Road was marked second best in the Premier League by match umpires, only behind Penzance.
