Cornwall County Cricket Club commence their season on Sunday with a visit to North Perrott to take on Dorset in the Unicorns Trophy.
The competition has reverted to a straight knock-out this year with the winners progressing to an away tie with Berkshire.
A new T20 tournament sees four group match days with double-headers against Devon, Wales MC, Dorset and Wiltshire with the group winner going forward to finals day at Wormsley on August Bank Holiday Sunday.
Looking forward to the season Team manager Godfrey Furse said this week “I have high expectations for the team under the leadership of Matthew Rowe and Scott Harvey. I would also like to express my thanks and congratulations to Matt Robins for being one of only two Cornish captains who has led the county to a national title.” He went on to add “The team for the first game will hopefully be bolstered by the inclusion of Peter Trego. This is part of our open relationship with Somerset CCC and part of a policy promoted by the ECB involving first-class and minor counties. We are looking for a positive start and look forward to a good turnout for our two National T20 games against Devon at Truro on Sunday 6 May.”
New professional Sam Wood is set to make his debut. A left-handed batsman and off-spinner he took four wickets for his club, Plumtree, in the National Club Championship on Sunday.Penzance’s Nathan Pobega is also set to win his first cap.
