Cornwall’s successful Senior Women’s team are in action this Monday (27th August) at the County Ground, New Road, Worcester. They take on the hosts in a huge game for Cornwall women’s and girls’ cricket. Having won their Division 3 group, seeing off the Netherlands in the process, they take part in this Play-Off fixture for a place in Division Two of the County Championship next season. That’s even bigger than it sounds, as it means we would be amongst the top 16 counties, out of 36 in the competition, and would be on a level playing field with our big local rivals Devon and Somerset. The latter were relegated from Division 1 this season. Matches in Division 2 would represent a great challenge for this young and developing squad, but they have made excellent progress in the past year and, whatever level they play at, will be looking to improve further over the next few seasons.
There have been some impressive individual performances throughout the season but much of the squad’s success can be attributed to their incredible team spirit and unerring willingness to celebrate each other’s success – a strong character trait that is a pleasure to be around. They are also most grateful for the support they have received from friends, family, Cornwall CCC and the Board.
Our squad is led by Kellie Williams, coached by Robin Trethowan and the manager is Steve Nicholls. The travelling 13 are: Caitlin Burnett, Amber Cummins, Sophie Richards, Ellie Mitchell, Rebecca Odgers, Charlotte Phillips, Joleigh Roberts, Kellie Williams *, Emily Geach, Izzy Grant-French +, Lucie Oakley, Emmie Blamey and Hannah Trow.
Start time is 11.00am on Monday, at New Road, Worcester. 50 overs per side.
