Somerset County Cricket Club are delighted to be able to announce that the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Club and Cornwall Cricket took place at the Cooper Associates County Ground last week.
Cornwall and Somerset have always enjoyed a strong working relationship and the signing of this MOU will see that collaborative partnership go from strength to strength.

Both Counties have now committed to ensuring that they will work side by side to guarantee that the future of the game flourishes in the region at all levels, from grassroots all the way through to the professional First-Class game.

It’s not just the on-field activities that will benefit from the MOU as Somerset CCC Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry explains.
“Obviously one of the main aims of this new agreement is to ensure that the best young talent from Cornwall progresses through the system and goes on to win international honours but this partnership is about more than that,” he said. “The MOU goes much deeper than just the playing side of things. Where appropriate, we will also be working with Cornwall from a commercial and marketing perspective whilst also ensuring that we are able to inspire future generations and support the people of Cornwall through community engagement practices.

“We already have a great working relationship with Cornwall, and this will now take that to the next level.”

Joe Skinner, Cornwall Cricket Development Manager said: “This is a very exciting partnership between Cornwall Cricket and Somerset County Cricket Club. Both counties will see the benefits of sharing resources, opportunities and expertise that will undoubtedly benefit both the Player Pathway and our communities.”

Chris Hunkin, Cornwall Cricket Performance Manager said: “This partnership represents a great opportunity for Cornwall Cricket and in particular the players and coaches involved with representative cricket.
“Our relationship with Somerset CCC has been growing over the past four years and this agreement creates a strong basis from which to further develop.”

Godfrey Furse, Cornwall County Manager said: “We are looking forward to the partnership with Somerset County Cricket. It’s a great opportunity for the county to improve and move forwards. The close links will enhance the opportunities for our young aspiring cricketers to become professionals.”
